Original Fairview Home Embellished
Overview: The clients wanted to revamp various areas of the house to provide the added space to accommodate their everyday needs and to create a graceful flow and cohesiveness to the home’s look and feel.
Challenge: The home’s traditional colonial layout housed a separate dining room that gave the first floor a disjointed feel, and the second-story space, created from a renovation in the 1980s, lacked proportion and functionality.
Solution: We gave the first floor a more cohesive and expansive feel by creating a large opening that connected the dining room to other areas of the home and also to a raised masonry porch that incorporated a convenient grilling area. We enclosed the side porch and transformed it into a sun room with coffered ceilings. We also removed the stairs from the porch which allowed for a full story to be added to the house and enabled us to reclaim more second-story space and add a new room which included a master bath and laundry room.
A final solution pulled all aspects of the renovation together: a blue stone patio that connects all first-floor rooms with the exterior. The patio’s outdoor fire pit enhances the eye appeal and warmth of the home’s outdoor space.
