If individual attention and thoughtful design is what you’re looking for in an architectural firm, drop by our Siegel Architects office on Main Street in Chatham and share your vision for your home. Nestled in the historic downtown district of Chatham Borough, Siegel Architects opened its doors in 1990 and today is licensed in six states (New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maryland). Our firm is home to an architectural staff with more than 100 years of combined experience and expertise in a wide range of projects—from Residential Additions and Renovations, to New Construction including Custom Vacation Homes and Tear Downs, and Small-scale Commercial and Community Projects.
Affording high-touch service, transparency and communication, and project management throughout the design and building process, exceptional expertise in classic and contemporary design, and an intimate knowledge of local zoning and building regulations and cogent representation before municipal planning and adjustment boards, we’re here to help you bring your vision to life.
Our story begins in Chatham, NJ in 1990. Janet established the practice, and, in 1996, Brian joined her. At that time, we incorporated Siegel Architects and moved our office to the third floor of a building that housed a long-running cafe in the center of town.
Over the years, our practice has expanded its space to include the second floor of that building. As our practice grew, we eventually purchased the Victorian-era (circa 1887) building and continued to embellish its presence and maintain its charm as a widely recognized fixture in the quaint downtown Chatham area.
Traditionally trained in drawing, we use sketches to convey ideas, then seamlessly incorporate modern computer drafting in the design process. This blend of traditional and modern design methods is an art form we’re proud of because we believe it helps you better envision your project’s outcome. It also creates mutual understanding that ensures design solutions that fulfill your vision and align with both your aesthetic sensibilities and your needs for your everyday life.
When you work with us, you are always part of the design process. We foster an open dialogue throughout your project’s lifecycle and encourage you to contribute your ideas.
The unique requirements of your home and its surrounding footprint and neighborhood are always our priority. We are also continually focused on your need for functionality at the same time we respect the historic correctness of your home and its distinct historic features.
Blending Historic and Modern and Design Solutions for the Unique Needs of Your Home
Bigger and glamorous (glitzy) are not always better. That’s our philosophy at Siegel Architects, and we believe it’s an important one, as Chatham and the surrounding area are a unique blend of historic homes and more modern structures. Within the overall goal of bringing clients’ dreams to reality, we work with a three-pronged approach:
- Embrace your goals and ideas
- Develop the best design solution for the unique requirements of your home
- Maintain the character and integrity of your neighborhood
Within this framework, we listen attentively to help you bring your vision to life.
But effective design does not exist in a vacuum. Typically, it takes the work of a team of professionals. We regularly work seamlessly with contractors, engineers, landscape architects, lighting designers and a whole cadre of professionals to make each project a reality.
Since the 1990’s, we have remained constant in our approach: to view each project holistically and create contextually appropriate designs that speak to the uniqueness of your needs, the scale and proportion of your home and land, and the context and character of your neighborhood.
