Our philosophy is simple – bigger is not always better. Chatham and the surrounding area is a unique lend of historic homes and more modern structures. Every client comes to the design table with a distinct set of goals and ideas. We strive to work with our clients to provide the best design solution possible for their unique requirements, as well as maintaining the character and integrity of their existing neighborhoods.

Effective design does not exist in a vacuum. In order to bring a client's dreams to reality, it often takes the work of a team of professionals. We regularly work seamlessly with contractors, engineers, landscape architects, lighting designers and a whole cadre of professionals to make each project a reality.

The story of Siegel Architects begins in 1990, when Janet Siegel established her own architectural practice in Chatham, NJ. In 1996, her husband Brian joined her to incorporate Siegel Architects on the third floor above a long-running cafe in the center of town. Over the years the practice expanded to also include the second floor of the building. The Siegels eventually purchased the Victorian-era (circa 1887) building and continue to embellish its presence and maintain its charm as a widely recognized fixture in the quaint downtown Chatham area.

Blending traditional and modern design methods is something they excel at. Having been traditionally trained in drawing and using sketches to convey ideas, they have been able to seamlessly incorporate the more modern computer drafting in the design process. With a very hands-on approach, Brian and Janet work together with their clients to create a very personalized atmosphere where the client is able to interact and contribute to the design process.

Their goal has been, and continues to be, the creation of unique and contextually appropriate designs for each particular setting. On additions and renovations to homes for instance, the final comments are almost always "what a fantastic home,” not "what a great addition.”
